UN refuses to confirm political transition talks

A spokeswoman for the U-N envoy Staffan de Mistura said next week’s peace negotiations will be entirely guided by the U-N Security Council Resolution 2254. The resolution talks specifically about governance, a new constitution and elections in Syria. Meanwhile, German Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel has said countries opposed to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, including the U-S, have expressed their support for the UN-brokered peace talks. The German diplomat made the comments after a meeting with representatives from the U-S, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, France and Britain on the sideline of G20 summit.
