Spanish court blocks Catalan independence vote

Spain's Constitutional Court has blocked a resolution by Catalonia's regional parliament calling for a referendum on independence in the current year.
The court, which suspended the resolution in December, branded it as unconstitutional. Catalan’s parliament adopted the resolution in October 20-16 and pledged to hold a vote in September 20-17. Catalonia has made several unsuccessful attempts to win approval from Spain's central government for an independence vote. The court ruling is expected to stoke tensions between Catalonia and Madrid.
