Several US senators seek additional sanctions against Iran

A group of Republicans in the US House of Representatives has introduced a bill to sanction Iran.

The measure, called Iran Non-Nuclear Sanctions Act of 2017, seeks sanctions against Tehran for supporting terrorism, abusing human rights, and testing ballistic missiles. The proposed legislation comes a day after House Speaker Paul Ryan said he would support imposing additional sanctions on Iran over its recent missile test. Washington says the test was in violation of a nuclear deal between Iran and the P5+1 group of countries. Tehran has strongly rejected all the allegations. It says its ballistic missile program is not related to the nuclear accord and is merely for defensive purposes.
