A US judge has brought to a halt President Donald Trump’s controversial
ban on seven predominately Muslim countries. A federal judge in Seattle
has issued the nationwide temporary restraining order following requests
from the states of Washington and Minnesota. The Seattle judge has also
granted the states the right to sue the Trump administration over the
ban they labeled as unconstitutional. Earlier on Friday, lawyers for the
government argued the states don't have standing to challenge the
president’s executive order. Elsewhere in Boston, a federal judge has
ruled in favor of Trump’s government, declining to extend a partial
block on the president’s order. The rulings come as representatives from
the states of New York, Massachusetts, Virginia and Washington, who
filed a lawsuit against Trump’s ban, attended the first court hearing.
