Prominent Australians say no to Netanyahu


The statement slammed Benjamin Netanyahu’s policies toward Palestinians as provocative, intimidating and oppressive. It said the Australian government should not welcome the Israeli premier. Signatories also criticized Australia’s one-sided support for Israel. They said they are appalled at Canberra’s opposition to a recent U-N Security Council resolution that condemned Israeli occupation of Palestinian lands. Activists have also planned protests against Netanyahu’s visit in Melbourne and Canberra. Netanyahu is scheduled to travel to Australia on Wednesday in the first ever visit by an Israeli premier.
