Several people were injured in the confrontations that erupted after the Italian lower house of parliament approved the so-called Uber amendment bill. The draft that has already received the backing of the Senate would see easing regulations for taxi companies. Opponents believe it would be to the benefit of internet-based and app-based taxi companies such as Uber. Italian taxi drivers have also voiced opposition to the bill by holding protests for the past six days. Similar rallies were held in Milan and Turin.
