Police, protesters clash near Paris over assault on black man

Clashes have broken out in France between security forces and protesters who are angry over the alleged rape of a young black man by police.

The violence took place in the town of Bobigny, northern Paris. Police fired tear gas to disperse demonstrators who are demanding justice for the 22-year-old victim, identified as Theo. The protest is the latest in a series of rallies against police violence in France. More than two-hundred protesters have been arrested so far. Theo was sexually abused during a stop and search operation in a Paris suburb on February two. The assault caused him severe injuries and he had to be rushed to a hospital to receive emergency surgery. One of the police officers attacking the 22-year old has been charged with rape, while three others with assault.
