Offensive launched to liberate western Mosul

Iraqi army forces and allied fighters are advancing towards the city from the south. They have so far liberated several villages in the western part of Mosul and taken control of the main power plant there. The Iraqi troops have also managed to kill several Daesh members including snipers. Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Al-Abadi has urged the forces to deal with civilians properly and respect human rights. Nearly 650-thousand civilians live on the western side of Mosul. Iraqi forces launched the Mosul liberation operation in October 20-16. The first phase of the operation led to the liberation of the eastern side of the city last month.
