Multi-faith groups in Canada form protective rings around mosques

ulti-faith groups in Canada have formed protective human shields around mosques in the wake of the deadly gun attack on an Islamic center in Quebec last week.

Activists formed rings of peace at midday Friday prayers. Coordinated action was taken in Toronto, Edmonton and Saint John’s. The activists said they sought to show their outrage against anti-Muslim hate crimes. The student behind the Sunday attack in Quebec has been described as a pro-Trump, anti-immigration and pro-far right. On Friday, thousands gathered in Quebec for the funeral of the last three of the six victims of the Sunday shooting. An earlier funeral in Montreal was attended by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, whose government has denounced the attack as an act of terror.
