New US Defense Secretary James Mattis has step up anti-Iran rhetoric accusing the Islamic republic of sponsoring terrorism.Addressing a press conference during his visit to Tokyo, Mattis also said the world would not ignore Iran’s activities. The rhetoric was in line with those of US President Donald Trump himself who has pledged a more aggressive policy against Tehran over its recent ballistic missile test. According to Trump, the White House has formally put Tehran on notice. Iranian officials have dismissed the US threats as futile, stressing that the country will keep boosting its defensive capabilities. Tehran maintains that its missile launches fit into its conventional defense doctrine and has nothing to do with a nuclear deal signed between Iran and the six major world powers in 2015.
