Mahmoud Abbas urges UN to ensure Palestinians' rights

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has slammed Israel for violating international law and failing to heed international calls to stop settlement activity in the occupied territories.

Addressing the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, Abbas highlighted Israel’s gross violation of Palestinians’ rights. He said the Israeli regime has continued its expansionist policy, seventy years after it compelled one-half of the Palestinian population to exile. He added that Tel Aviv has been plundering villages and confiscating Palestinian land for decades to expand settler units. The Palestinian president urged the United Nations and international agencies to take full responsibility in ensuring the rights of the Palestinians. Abbas’s speech also focused on the Palestinian statehood, terrorism and instability in the Middle East.
