Iraqi forces enter Mosul intl. airport, control runway

Iraqi forces have managed to enter Mosul International Airport hours after they started a major operation to take full control of the site from Daesh terrorists.

Iraqi military officials say the troops are now in control of the airport’s runway. The government forces have also stormed a nearby military base. The site could be used as a launchpad for the rest of the Mosul operation to retake the western part of the city from the Daesh terrorist group. Mosul is bisected by the Tigris River. It fell to Daesh in 2014. The liberation of the strategic city would be the de facto fall of the terror group in Iraq.
