The European Union has renewed sanctions on Zimbabwe's long-term leader, President Robert Mugabe. The bloc has voted to continue economic and travel restrictions on Mugabe, his wife Grace, and the country's defence industry. The sanctions -- which have been in place since 2002 -- involve the freezing some of Mugabe's assets and ban EU members from trading arms with Zimbabwe. However, the EU Council has agreed to partially lift an arms embargo to allow for trade in explosives used in mining and infrastructure.
