Belgium: Saudis spreading Wahhabism in Europe

Belgium's terror monitoring centre has voiced concern about the spread of Wahhabism in the country.

The OCAM national crisis centre says an increasing number of mosques and centers in the country are preaching the extremist ideology. Saudi Arabia has also set up a generous bursary scheme to spread Wahhabism among Muslim students from other countries. The report adds that the move is clearly meant to strengthen the influence and practice of Wahhabism in Europe’s Muslim communities. Belgium has been on high alert following deadly attacks on the airport and metro station in Brussels last year. Eleven people have been detained in connection with extremists returning from Syria.
