Prosecutors raid French parliament as scandal over Fillon's wife's 'fake job' grows

A new report shows the family of French presidential candidate, Francois Fillon, earned nearly one million dollars for allegedly fake jobs.
The Canard Enchaine newspaper has reported that Fillon’s wife, Penelope made 900-thousand dollars over 15 years. According to the report, two of Fillon's children also earned over 90-thousand dollars during his tenure as senator. The couple is under a preliminary probe by national financial prosecutors on suspicions of embezzlement and misappropriation of public funds. The investigation was launched after the paper first disclosed the so-called Penelopegate last week. On Tuesday, French police also searched the presidential candidate’s office in parliament as part of the inquiry into the scandal involving his wife. Fillon, whose campaign has been rocked by the report, says he is the target of QUOTE an unprecedented professional slander campaign.
